Artist Maisie Broadhead originally trained as a jeweller and now produces fine art photographic parodies. Her work is being featured in the upcoming exhibition "Seduced by Art: Photography Past and Present" at the National Gallery in London. Maisie Broadhead worked with filmmaker Jack Cole to create the time lapse video "Ode to Hill and Adamson"- a modern day recreation of an 1844 photographic print by Hill and Adamson which it references.
I have long been a fan of seeing the process that goes into artwork, but "Ode to Hill and Adamson" takes this concept to a whole new level- the process and our ability to view it is the artwork. I love how the model sits patiently in place while the scene is literally created around her- she is constantly being circled and worked upon, as she looks around, talks on her cell phone and sips coffee. It is a perfect combination of past and present- proof that is takes a lot of effort and forethought to recreate the past. But it's worth it : )
